Yes, fireclay is heavier than standard materials. Ensure your counter has adequate support brackets or framework. The sink weighs significantly more than ceramic alternatives but provides superior durability.
The sink supports both styles, but your counter cutout determines which you can use. Undermount requires a smaller cutout, while drop-in needs a larger opening with rim support.
Fireclay is fired at much higher temperatures (2600F vs 1800F) for longer periods, creating a denser, more durable material. It resists chips, stains, and heat better than standard ceramic.
The glossy glazed surface actually resists stains very well. Coffee, wine, and other common bar spills wipe clean easily. The high-temperature firing creates a non-porous surface.
